Passport and Visa Regulations

Visitors from Nordic countries
Citizens of Nordic countries do not need a passport to visit Iceland, but it is recommended that they bring one. If they stay longer than six months, they must notify the National Registry.

Visitors from Schengen countries
Citizens of Schengen countries do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) but must carry a valid passport or travel ID. A residence permit is required for stays longer than 90 days.

Visitors from outside the Schengen area
Citizens of countries outside the Schengen area may need a visa for stays under 90 days unless they are exempt. A residence permit is required for stays longer than 90 days.
