** The Lava Tunnel tour is not strenuous (difficulty level 1/5) and should be easy for most people. However, it is not recommended for people with poor balance or people who have difficulty walking up and down steep stairs.

Get to know the Hengill area
On this pre-tour, Visit South Iceland and its partners invite you to discover the fascinating Hengill area, characterized by moss-covered lava fields, steaming geothermal ground and accessible mountain trails.
The Geothermal Exhibition
We will visit the Geothermal Exhibition at Iceland’s largest geothermal plant, where visitors can see first-hand how the power of the Hengill volcanic system is harnessed to produce electricity and hot water.
MegaZipline
Prepare for excitement! At Mega Zipline we will fly for a kilometer from the top of the Kambar plateau overlooking the town of Hveragerði to the trailhead of the Reykjadalur hot spring valley.
The Lava Tunnel – Raufarhólshellir
A journey into The Lava Tunnel is a unique experience and a great opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption as one walks in the path of lava that flowed 5200 years ago. Paths and platform have been installed in the cave, making it easily accessble for most people. Award winning Lighting has been installed in the tunnel as well, clearly showing the unique geological features that the tunnel has to offer.
The Greenhouse
The group will dine together and stay overnight at The Greenhouse, a new destination which combines food, drink, shopping, accommodation and entertainment in one experience. At The Greenhouse Hotel, every room offers mountain views.

In between activities, we will get a chance to learn about new developments as well as popular attractions in the area, including hot springs and pools, accommodation options, restaurants, museums and exciting outdoor activities.

You need warm clothes suitable to the Icelandic weather (warm sweater, rain clothes, walking shoes, gloves, hat) Most experiences are outdoors.
